| Wireless Network repeaters work by picking up
a weak WiFi signal and then re-broadcasting this signal at full
strength again. Requirements to setup
correctly:
A small understanding of network IP addresses etc, all repeaters
need setting up initially with a pc connected via a ethernet cable
(supplied), this entails setting the IP address of your host
computer and configuring the device over the created local network.
Scan & selecting the network to repeat and including wep codes etc,
then save setting, unplug repeater and simply plug into a power
socket in the low signal spot to work as a stand alone device.
Repeaters can only work with WEP security, not
WPA
Repeaters half the throughput of a network
signal as the device is receiving and sending at the same time.
This is fine on a standard broadband system as usually the incoming
speed is 8mbps and the wireless network is 54mbps so even halving
this would not effect internet surfing.
If you require a system that keeps the network
speed high and is also easier to setup then homeplugs would be more
suitable:
One standard
homeplug goes into your router to inject the network into your
power circuit and one
wireless homeplug goes into a power socket were ever the
wireless signal does not reach. |
